For most of my working life, the things I've had to say have come out through other channels — interviews, panels, conference stages, the odd campaign letter to a sporting federation that didn't much want to hear from me. This site is a different kind of outlet: a place to write things down properly, at whatever length they need, without anyone else's editorial line to fit into.
I've spent over twenty years building a business around sport, and a fair amount of energy fighting the parts of sport that don't deserve the word. Along the way I've ended up with opinions on quite a lot else too — politics, business, culture, and the ordinary business of living — and not many places to put them that felt like mine.
So that's what this is. No fixed beat, no house style to please. Just whatever seems worth saying, on sport when I have something useful to add, and beyond sport when I don't.
